Inspiration, Determination, and a Bit of Natural "Badassery"...
Recently on a leadership call, we got in to a discussion about leaders being able to both inspire people and hold them accountable. One of the leaders, Chris said, "It's like a good cop - bad cop kind of thing." He went on to say that sometimes he has difficulty with the accountability piece as he feels like the accountability part will undo the inspiration part. He gave me an example: Mary is a good worker. She works hard and her numbers show it. The only issues is tha

Would You Be "Your" Valentine?
Valentines Day is a day where we show our affection to the person we love. When a flight attendant gives the pre-flight safety presentation she says, "If you are traveling with a child, please attend to yourself first and then the child." Do you think that same philosophy applies to love? Do you feel that before you love someone else, you need to truly love yourself first? My question to you this Valentine's Day is, "Do you love yourself enough to be "your" Valentine?" Her

A "Taylor" Made Message...
My son, Taylor is the JV coach for Bound Brook High School in NJ. My husband and I attend all of their home games not only because we miss watching high school sports now that our sons are older but also because we love watching Taylor, coach. At the home games, the Bound Brook player's bench is on one side of the gym and the bleachers for the fans on the other. Although we can see Taylor, we can't hear what he says to the players during timeouts. Last evening, Bound Brook

You're Gonna Make It After All...
Thank you Mary Tyler Moore, thank you! I love this message. It challenges us to be bold. It encourages us to take chances. Yes, we will make mistakes along the way but those mistakes will help us grow. Failure feeds our courage...it forces us to be brave enough to try again. It teaches us...we're gonna make it after all. RIP MTM. #takechances #makemistakes #feedyourbraveryandcourage #topnotchteams #customerserviceexcellence #dontjustsetouttodoagoodjob #leadershiptrainin

"Don't just set out to do a good job..."
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, I am sharing part of a speech he gave at a Philadelphia high school in 1967 entitled "What Is Your Life's Blueprint?" The message is simple but incredibly powerful...whatever you choose to do in life...aspire to be the very best at it...heed these words each day at work and remember...be your own exclamation point! "And when you discover what you will be in your life, set out to do it as if God Almighty called you at this particular mome

The Holidays Are All About Believing... What Do You Believe?
"I believe in pink. I believe laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles. ~Audrey Hepburn This is the season of believing... What's the Best That Could Happen in 2017...
I saw this quote today and thought the message was spot on: "If you want 2017 to be your year... Don't sit on the couch and wait for it. Go out. Make a change. Smile more. Be excited. Do new things. Throw away what you've been cluttering. Unfollow negative people on social media. Go to bed early. Wake up early. Be fierce. Don't gossip. Show more gratitude. Do things that challenge you. Be brave." (Via 9GAG.COM) All of the things listed above will enhance your posi

Listening To Understand...
Walking through Home Goods, I saw this sign that says, "People will tell you a lot if you listen." It was in the area with children's room decorations. I love the fact that this is a message about listening targeted for children. Effective listening is a hard skill to master. If we start to teach children listening skills when they are young, they will grow to be good listeners and they will use those skills for the rest of their lives. People are labelled as "hard of heari
